“For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is power of God”
1 Corinthians 1:14
The death on the cross shows us that there is someone who loves us unconditionally and who gave his own life for the possibility of our salvation. Yes, my brethren, He gave his life for us, to take away our sins and our sinful nature and to reconcile us with God. “When you were dead in your sins and in the uncircumcision of your sinful nature, God made you alive with Christ. He forgave us all of our sins, having canceled the written code, with its regulations, that was against us and that stood opposed to us; he took it away, nailing to the cross”. (Colossians 2:13-14)
The cross is a symbol of sacrificing oneself because of precious love. At the cross, our Lord and Savior gave us a message that is really difficult to be understood. He had also shown us what kind of love we should have for each other.
This is a free gift, an offer and a chance for every one of us to overcome our disobedience to the Lord, to soften our hearts for the Word of God and His precious message. Because many of us were against the message of the Lord, against accepting to live Godly lives. “…many lives as enemies of the cross of Christ” Philippians 3:18
But, Lord is consistent all the time. Although He is love, He is strictly persistent in His divine purpose to reconcile us"...through the Cross…" Ephesians 2:16
And the Bible tells us that He is the winner, He is the one who overcame the evil represented by the Satan and his fallen demons " …triumphing over them by the cross" Colossians 2:15
The word heart has two different meanings. The one is medical in sense of physical characteristics, and the other one is spiritual.
There is a story: A grandfather and a nephew were discussing about fullness of heart. The grandfather said that he felt as in his heart there was a fight between a good wolf and a bad and evil wolf. The nephew asked him who was going to win. The answer was: The one who I was feeding all my life. Proverbs 27:19 ”so a man’s heart reflects the man”. Matthew 15:19 “For out of the heart come evil thoughts”. Nothing could be hidden from the Lord. “God knows your heart” Luke 16:15.
Our whole perception of life is laid deep into our hearts. “And lay up his words in your heart” Job 22:22, words of knowledge and wisdom from the God’s word “that we may gain a heart of wisdom” Psalm 90:12.
What we put into our hearts, what kind of thoughts we settle deep down there, discovers our character, our personality through our words and consequently through our deeds. We can not expect our evil thoughts to produce good behaviour, or we can not expect good wording if deep down into our heart envy, anger and brutality are laid. “Out of the same mouth come praise and cursing. My brothers, this should not be. Can both fresh water and salt water flow the same spring?” James 3:10-11.
Proverbs 16:23 “A wise man’s heart guides his mouth” or “of the heart the mouth speaks” Matthew 12:34.
The purpose of our life should be to be obedient to the Lord and through obedience and faithfulness to God, to achieve and deserve God’s presence. But, the condition for this is to have a pure heart.
“Create in me pure heart O God” Psalm 51:10 is my constant prayer. “I call with all my heart, answer me” Psalm 119:145.
God’s goodness and grace is for all “who has clean hands and pure heart” Psalm 24:4 and those “…may stand in his Holy place” Psalm 24:3
We should also be aware that “The heart is deceitful above all things” Jeremiah 17:9. And “the secrets of his heart will be laid bare” 1 Corinthians 14:25.
That is why every one of us should “wash the evil from … heart” Jeremiah 4:14;
be awake and “above all else, guard … heart…” Proverbs4:23
God is with us in all this 24/7. He is loving and full of mercy. He promises us “I will give you a new heart” Ezekiel 36:26 and “Blessed is the pure in heart” Matthew 5:8
The Holy Spirit, the Living God in a case of faithfulness and by our free decision “will guard your hearts and your minds” Philippians 4:7
“And I will give them a heart to know me, that I am the Lord: and they shall be my people, and I will be their God, for they shall return unto me with their whole heart” Jeremiah 24:7
“Do not harden your hearts” Hebrew 3:8 to hear the message of God, to lay it down as a growing seed and to bear first fruit of your faith, first blessings of your obedience to Jesus Christ.
