“…Faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen. For by it the elders obtained a good report. Through faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the word of God, so that things, which are seen, were not made of things, which do appear” Hebrew 11:1-3; Luke 17:6(NKJV)
This precise definition of faith is given in the letter to Hebrews, but the words are written under the guidance of the Holy Spirit. And it is clearly stated in order to avoid further discussion about the issue of faith and someone to try to define it worldly with human thinking. At the same time it is a message for all of us that we should accept certain beliefs by faith, not asking to see on the issue, like doubting Apostle Thomas did about Jesus’ resurrection (John 20:24-29)”…Blessed are those who have nor seen me and yet have believed” John 20:29 “Now the just shall live by faith…” Hebrew 10:37-39
By faith we are justified, by faith we belong to Christ’s family, by faith we are saved by the will of the Lord and it is a free gift for us. “For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God” Ephesians 2:8 “But to him that worketh not, but believeth on him that justifieth the ungodly, his faith is counted for righteousness” Romans 4:5 Faith in our Lord and Savior Jesus is the only way that will lead us to truth and everlasting life. We as sinners are forgiven by faith in the Holy blood of Jesus shed on the Calvary cross. “Knowing that a man is not justified by the works of the law, but by the faith of Jesus Christ, even we have believed in Jesus Christ, that we might be justified by the faith of Christ, and not by the works of the law: for by the works of the law shall no flesh be justified” Galatians 2:16
Faith can also perform miracles even today as it was the case in those days when Jesus and the Apostles were on the earth. “…If ye have faith as a grain of mustard seed, ye shall say unto this mountain, Remove hence to yonder place; and it shall remove; and nothing shall be impossible unto you." Matthew 17:20 And this is a strong promise and very desirable for everyone.
“Therefore we conclude that a man is justified by faith without the deeds of the law” Romans 3:28“Therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ: By whom also we have access by faith into this grace wherein we stand, and rejoice in hope of the glory of God” Romans 5:1
“But the scripture hath concluded all under sin that the promise by faith of Jesus Christ might be given to them that believe. But before faith came, we were kept under the law, shut up unto the faith, which should afterwards be revealed. Wherefore the law was our schoolmaster to bring us unto Christ, that we might be justified by faith. But after that faith is come, we are no longer under a schoolmaster. For ye are all the children of God by faith in Christ Jesus” Galatians 3:22-26
“But wilt thou know, O vain man, that faith without works is dead?” James 2:20 Furthermore, we should know that faith should be accomplished by deeds that are result of the spirit. “But the fruit of the Spirit is love; joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith” Galatians 5:22
May God give us wisdom and knowledge from His Word to understand what is the message of being faithful, what is the outcome of our faith in the Lord and Savior Jesus, what kind of joy we may have if we know our Lord. As soon as we accept the Bible promises by faith, we will become children of God and we will be eligible for all God’s promises given in the Bible.
